The First Step: Evaluation
If you suspect your child has autism, an evaluation is the most important place to start.
An evaluation gives you a clear answer instead of a guess. If your child is diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, the next step is to explore therapy that will support their development. If your child isn't on the spectrum, you'll get that clarity too, and you can work with your pediatrician to understand what else might be going on.
When to Consider an Evaluation
Every child grows at their own pace, and there's a wide range of what's typical. But certain patterns are worth bringing up with a pediatrician. Signs can show up in different ways, including:

Social communication and connection. Difficulty with eye contact or nonverbal cues, delayed speech, or a strong preference for playing alone.

Repetitive behaviors and routines. Hand-flapping, rocking, or a strong need for routines to stay the same.

Sensory differences. Strong reactions to lights, sounds, or textures, or seeking out certain sensations.

Emotional regulation. Frequent meltdowns, shutdowns, or anxiety that feels bigger than the moment.

Communication beyond words. Using few words, relying on gestures, or repeating phrases and sounds.

None of these on their own means a child has autism. They're signals worth a conversation with a pediatrician, who can help decide whether an evaluation makes sense.

What to Expect From Start to Results
Free Consultation
Our expert team at Unity Behavioral Services will ask some questions to better understand your child's needs. If an evaluation is the right next step, we will gather some information to make the referral to AT4K simple and easy.
Complete Payment
Once you're ready to move forward, you'll complete payment for the assessment. This secures your referral to AT4K, and if you choose Unity Behavioral Services as your ABA provider afterward, you'll receive $500 back as a credit.
Schedule Appointments & Complete Forms
Next, the AT4K team contacts you directly to schedule two 90-minute appointments:
- An intake session
- The evaluation itself
There's no long waitlist to get on the calendar, so they will work with your schedule.
Following the call, AT4K will share some questionnaires and standard assessment measures that help build a full picture of your child's development.
Intake Assessment
You'll meet virtually with an AT4K psychologist to talk through your concerns, walk through your child's history, and learn what's ahead, including how to upload a few videos of your child at home.
Share a Glimpse of Home
Using AT4K's Frontera app, you'll upload a few simple videos so the psychologist can see your child in their everyday environment before the appointment. The goal is to get a full picture of your child's behavior.
Virtual Evaluation
You and your child join a 90-minute virtual appointment, where the psychologist leads you both through simple, activity-based assessments.
AT4K will score a CARS-2 assessment based on information gathered via interview, review of videos, and observation.
Receive Your Results
Within days, you'll get a full evaluation report sent to you, so you can move forward with clarity.
Reconnect with Unity
The Unity Behavioral Services team will follow up with you after your virtual evaluation to ensure you have the support you need as you plan next steps.

All evaluations are delivered by a licensed psychologist or developmental pediatrician using an activity-based CARS-2 assessment. During the assessment, AT4K will conduct an evaluation for Autism and issue a formal diagnosis if needed.
